Red Cross News: November 2009

Winter is nearly here and, like every year, it brings the promise of holiday cheer and, sadly, the threat of bad weather.

This weekend, we've had volunteers working round the clock in Cumbria to get people out of their flooded homes, give them emergency provisions, and provide first aid if needed.

The emergency services regularly call on us when weather causes problems in the UK. In February this year, when severe snowstorms spread across the country, our volunteers helped the emergency services by transporting patients to and from hospital, and helping set up rest centres for those left without power.

We hope you'll read our tips
on preparing for floods and preparing for severe winter weather so you won't be caught out if the weather turns bad this holiday season.

We also hope you'll think about supporting our work as you do your holiday shopping. Thank you again for your continued support.

With best wishes

June Rudman
UK emergency planning officer
