LIFE STRAWS (SAVE A LIFE FOR £3): May 2009
Life Straw: an invention that could become one of the greatest life-savers in history, costing less than the price of a cup of coffee
A personal water purification device that turns any water into drinking water. It is a plastic pipe filter - just 25cm long and 29mm in diameter - which can be hung around the neck.
It lasts an adult a whole year and a child nearly two years before they need a replacement.
At a recent assembly at The Banovallum School in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, UK, Dr Cheryle Berry from
School Aid Network and Mr Paul Scott from The Rotary Organisation demonstrated its effectiveness by drinking
water from the local river !!!!
The young people at this school now aim to fundraise and buy as many Lifestraws as they can, which will then be distributed to many parts of the world by Rotary International.
Do you know?
- more than one billion people - 1/6th of the world's population - are without access to a safe water supply
- 6000 people - mainly children - die each day from diseases caused by unsafe drinking water
If you would like to save a life for £3 please look at our Mini Enterprise for Lifestraws - Somalia on the SAN website.
You will need to be a member of School Aid Network to send your donation on-line.
THANK YOU
