Health in Hull for Health in Bangladesh: October 2007
The staff of a Hull Health Centre arranged a social evening to raise money towards building a hospital in a remote district of Bangladesh.
The team from Morrill Street Health Centre arranged refreshments, music and a traditional film show.
The excellent refreshments ranged from an English cup of tea to the spicy food of Bangladesh.
The music was provided by the band "We Do Not Tip". They played a variety of songs and music, some of which was written by members of the band. The audience commented on the quality of the music.
Dr Islam, on behalf of the Charity ABS UK, thanked all those attending the event and who had supported it in so many ways. This included the donation of raffle prizes. He explained how important a hospital will be for the community in Bangladesh.
The evening finished with a showing of the 1944 film "Meet Me In St Louis". The film was shown using a traditional film projector and large screen. The film was one of the first Technicolor films to be made Did any of the audience notice that there were no footprints in the snow in the winter scene, and there was not enough snow to have allowed the children to have made snowmen without leaving any trace of the snow being rolled into place?!!
The result of the social evening was that a magnificent sum of £551 was donated towards the hospital project.
