Lincs SIS: "thanks for your support": September 2010

A  B I G "thank you" to Lincolnshire School Improvement Service's PSHE team for publicsing the work School Aid Network School Clubs undertake, in their September 2010 newsletter.

We value their on-going support of our work with schools.

We are a Lincolnshire-based charity dedicated to giving members the opportunity to make a difference to others in
communities, both in UK and overseas.
We are steadily developing from our beginnings when we raised over £1.3 million in response to the Indian Ocean Tsumani in December 2004. Working closely with the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), we have a web-site portal by which schools can make donations direct to DEC and other organizations, raised through their School Aid Club.

What is a School Aid Club? What does it involve?

! Being organized either as part of the School Council programme or another body representing pupils or members
! Meeting approximately once a month (more often, if required)
! Deciding on and being involved in the organization of the school’s / organization’s charitable fund-raising programme
! Contacting SAN to ask for charities to be registered on the SAN website
! Leading the school in communicating with schools world-wide
! Being aware of other charity events in the district
! Ensuring money is pledged, sent to the appropriate organization and downloading a certificate
! Organizing pupils to keep the school / organization SAN web pages up-to-date
! Encouraging local charities to register with SAN; and then organizing pupils to keep the charities SAN web pages
up-to-date
! Writing news articles that can be sent to SAN for inclusion in the ‘News’ section
! Developing assemblies and curriculum materials to be added to the SAN web pages
! Keeping accounts and minutes
! Organizing and carrying out charitable activities
! Encouraging colleagues to take part in volunteer activities and advertise

Our School Aid Club addresses all aspects of Every Child Matters agenda, alongside PHSEE, active Citizenship, Sustainable Schools and the Global Dimension aspects of your school curriculum. We also provide web-links to a wide range of KS1-3  curriculum and assembly materials, as well as current news items, to support your children and young people's active engagement.

To help you initiate your school’s involvement with SAN we can offer a talk with children and young people, take a school  assembly and / or provide raising staff awareness workshop.
